Xdot offers a variety of practical rotordynamics short courses and training tailored to your needs. These courses help to develop an understanding of the rotordynamics of the machines which your company builds, buys, or maintains. These customized courses can range from 1/2 day to 3 days in length and can be delivered on-site.

Our courses focus on practical use of rotordynamic analysis as a tool to:

  • Ensure equipment being purchased does not have clear rotordynamic issues that will lead to unreliable operation (rotordynamic audit), and/or
  • Support development of new machinery with smooth, reliable operation (design), and/or
  • Assist in understanding and resolving field problems with existing machinery (vibration troubleshooting).

Our short courses are targeted at beginning and intermediate rotating equipment engineers who have a need to develop a practical understanding of the dynamic behavior and analysis of rotating machinery. This could include turbines, compressors, motors, generators, expanders, pumps, fans, etc. Our experience base includes small, high speed 1 to 2 kW machines, up to large 1000+ MW turbine generator trains.

The typical participant would have a bachelor's degree in engineering and some prior experience with rotating machinery. We also can present a high level half-day "rotordynamics for non-engineers" course that is targeted at a hands-on audience.

We keep the discussion concrete, example based, and with an absolute minimum amount of mathematics. If your needs are more technical though, we are also able to dive into theory and talk about eigenvalues, finite element solution of the Reynolds equation, magnetic bearing transfer functions, and more.

We meet your needs with in-house resources and/or by assembling a team with the required technical breadth.
